Crosman Quest 800x Review

CROSMAN QUEST 800X .22 COMBO.:
By: Mongojoe

Originally what I was searching for was a reasonably priced (read that "reasonably cheap"), "beater gun". A "springer", so I wouldn't have to mess with the added expense of air tanks or CO2, or the hassle of pumping it up for each shot. Something in .22 caliber, with sufficient power and accuracy for small game hunting or vermin extermination at reasonable ranges, that I could just stick behind the truck seat and have it handy if and when I needed it. Something at a price that I wouldn't really worry about if it picked up a few dings... After spending several days searching a number of airgun websites and forums for information and opinions on "quality" .22 caliber air rifles at a budget of around 100 dollars, I finally stumbled across the CROSMAN QUEST 800X .22 COMBO... And after a short time of hunting for the best price, I eventually found it for the modest sum of $99.95..... But, after receiving it and opening the box, I felt that this gun appeared to be just "too
pretty" to serve the lowly task of a "beater gun"... But putting that aside, I figured I would let the gun's performance make that decision.

Weighing right at 6 pounds, and about 45 inches long, this easy handling, break-barrel air rifle has a smooth, light colored, un-checkered wooden stock, black soft rubber butt-pad, good balance, fiber optic front and rear sights, handy inside-the-trigger-guard manual safety, and an attractive blued finish on the metal... I also appreciated the two-stage trigger adjustable for take-up, and the included scope-stop. This appeared to be a very functional and well thought out, as well as good looking, rifle... (I would have liked to have seen a set of mounted sling studs with swivels, but I don't know about the feasibility of this on a springer of this type, and besides, this is just personal preference anyway.)... For the price, I was actually rather impressed with the looks, handling, and functionality of this gun.

After receiving it, I cleaned it, swabbed the bore, made sure all the screws were tight, then sighted in the "issue/iron sights"... I then mounted, and proceeded to sight in the included 4X, matte black, CROSMAN scope... I had been impressed with the looks and handling, but I was even more impressed with the accuracy. With pellets it likes (Mine likes the RWS 14 grain Meisterkugeln.), the accuracy was on a par with other air rifles I own costing 3 times as much, but it was acceptably accurate with any .22 caliber pellet that I tried. And the power also exceeded my expectations.

To sum it up... if you are looking for an accurate, adequately powerful, well balanced, good looking air rifle for plinking, target practice, ridding the garden of small pests, vermin control, "snake attacks" while fishing, or small game hunting to reasonable distances... you may well want to give the CROSMAN QUEST 800X .22 COMBO, a serious look. For the money, this gun is going to be pretty difficult to beat. I consider it one of the best deals going today in a .22 caliber spring-piston air rifle... After all that I now know about this gun, it will be added to the others in my gun case, and it looks like my search for a "beater gun" to toss behind the truck seat, will continue......or I may just have to buy a second 800X, and ..................
