KL-B3 Review

The KL-B3, also known as the "Fast Deer", is a fairly quality Chinese air rifle. You can get this gun in both .177 or .22, however, .22 seems to be a bit harder to find, and easier to purchase by the case. For this review, I will be concentrating on the .177 caliber.

The KL-B3 comes with a hooded front sight, synthetic seal, and side cocking lever. It is estimated that the .177 shoots approximately 760fps. The finish is very good for a gun at this cost (under $50.00).  The hood on the front sight can be taken of since it's just clipped on. Also, the front sight is metal, not plastic and it comes off easy with 1 screw.

Everything looked very good on the rifle straight from the factory, except for very noticeable barrel droop. I put a straight edge on it, and it was drooping about a 1/2"  the length of the barrel (bummer).

The finish on the stock was perfect, as was the bluing on the metal.

Time to shoot ! I mounted a nice 32mm scope on it and shot with Winchester Hunting Pellets. I setup a very large target because of the barrel droop and used a gun rest to sight it in. The first shot hit 11.5 inches low! I backed the scope screw for elevation all the way out and shot again. Still 4" to low.

I brought the rifle in the house, took it apart and set the assembly on a pair of saw horses. I took a cloth and placed it over the area the barrel went into. Then I took a 2X4 and sat it on the assembly and put a sledge hammer to it a few times. Checked it with a straight edge, still off. After a couple more hits, nice and straight. The straightening did not affect the finish at all either.

After checking some forums about the barrel droop problem, I noticed many others had similar problems with their KL-B3 and used a similar technique to fix the problem. I re-assembled the rifle and re-mounted the scope. I also screwed the elevation screw back in on the scope to midrange to give me ample adjustment. Time to shoot again...

NEXT DAY: Couldn't wait to try it out. Put on some clothes and out the door I went. I stapled 4 blank pieces of paper up with a stick on target center. First 3 shots with Beeman Wadcutters were still a bit low by 3". A small adjustment and here is the results.

Not to bad for 15yds. It held these results consistently through out the remainder of the shoot. Keep in mind that this gun has not had much break-in. My next sight in will be at 30yds.

The KL-B3 definitely is an accurate rifle. Quality is good, other than a misaligned barrel. For some, a misaligned barrel is enough to turn them off on a rifle, but for the price, I don't mind making an adjustment. This is a keeper for me. I'm going to try and get my hands on a .22 Fast Deer next.
