This is my QB79 field target rifle Craig Phillips

This Entry is for the "Best Looking Stock" as the action
is from Mountain Air. I started with a QB target stock from Archer and
removed all traces of Chinese finish. I then added a "Paduak" and Yellow
Heart end cap to the grip and fore end pinned with Ebony. The Yellow Heart
is the light colored spacer. I sanded first with a RA sander and 60 grit
to change the shape, remove the original finish and re-carve the grip.
Followed by every grit thru to 400. Extremely hard wood from China. The
Grip area was Out lined with a Dremel and the Grip area finish is from a
60 grit 1/2" drum. Doesn't show up well but, feels great in the hand. So
far I have rubbed in about 4 coats of tongue oil. I'll cut it 50, 50 with
poly to get some shine. The .22 caliber action is new from Roy at Mountain
Air....I haven't touched it, YET. Scope is a 6X Bug Buster from Pyramid
Rings are BKL I plan to finish the aluminum barrel shroud black and add a
trigger shoe and ............ |

Here are
pics of my entry, "QB-OTT". I'll send another email with chrono strings
and groups. Gun is a 2078 with a reshaped stock, internal microline from
the toe of the stock to the front of the tube, valve mods to let it reach
800fps with .22 copperheads, (gun is re-barreled in .22) Handmade aluminum
setback trigger, vintage adjustable but plate, trigger tune, polished
trigger guard, RJ steel barrel band, a hand built replacement for the
takedown nut, RWS clone brake, and color shift paint with bed liner in the
grip. Barrel is hand lapped (lead lap cast in the bore) and crown touched
up, with a small hole in the feed trough to allow the receiver to bolt
down (flathead socket screw) after the barrel is mounted, eliminating
damage to the icemaker tube seal. A piano wire probe helps with the power. Scott Laughlin |

![]() ![]() This is my Mac1 prepared
QB in .22 cal. with HW barrel. The stock is my first try at carving one
from scratch. Made of Milo (a Hawaiian hardwood) with some of the sapwood
left for contrast. I used a router to create the barrel channel, then
carved with a power planer, an electric die grinder, and a Dremel tool for
shaping. The stock-to- action stud was shortened and the nut inletted to
hide it. It is finished with tung oil but no stain. This is the natural
color of the wood. The butt pad is a left-over from an RWS 36. I also

I have a .22 QB79T. I did a camo paint job on her.

My gun started life as a TF79T in .177 with factory match
stock. I obtained an inexpensive factory thumbhole stock and did a refit,
re stain and highlights with truck be liner. My feeling from the
gate back in 2004 when I purchased the TF79T, is that the factory should
have had the thumbhole option for the T model guns. The handling and
balance with it mounted on the thumbhole, is superb, many that shoot it
who own higher end target airarms mention this. It is ambidextrous. The
internals have gone over an extensive tune, full polished tube, bolt, and
breech. All seals are high quality and replaced, valve is full done over
all screens removed, trigger breaks with minimum travel or creep and hits
predictably. The high chrony on it was at 830 fps and this particular
specimen loves all pellets, favoring Gamo hunters, as those that provide
the best and most consistent groups. This gun in a recently held impromptu
FT type shooting session, also hitting shatter blasts, accuracy wise was
up there and held its own, and more often excelled by a strong margin,
over my buddies recently purchased FX Typhoon PCP, in a 50 yard window.
The FX was equipped with a 24x scope while the TF had a 12x |
